  • Our 1st time in Toulouse! Vlog #14

Behind the scenes Dance & Circus photoshoot Basically our first time in Toulouse and to make it short... We loved it! This also summarizes our stay in “La Ville rose”. Only 10 days and a whole city to discover. We parked our RV outside the city and tried to visit as much as possible during our first 48 hours there. The weather wasn't great but this is now something we are used to. We now know that this is the price to pay when you mainly work outdoors. Toulouse is known for its strong Circus community so I was hoping to get mainly circus performers for the few photoshoots I had in mind. Unfortunately, we were (again) out of luck. All the performers I reached out to were unavailable... all... except one! Yes, the lovely Jatta Borg (hand balancer) was thrilled to join us on our project. Toulouse wasn't originally on our roadmap, so this time, we didn't have the precious help of the city for location suggestions and proper authorizations due to lack of time. But we were not alone... thanks to a bit of help from the Tourist office! After choosing a few locations during the first 2 days and confirming our team of performers we just had to get out there and make all the pictures we could before getting arrested. Ha, ha I am just kidding, nothing dangerous this time, at least nothing that could get us in trouble. In the end, 4 dancers from the Ballet du Capitole, 1 circus artist, just enough for our 10-day stay in Toulouse. Jatta Borg Lauren Kennedy Scilla Cattafesta Julie Loria Little Bonus... We do not always have the time to film ourselves working. Here is the beautiful Solène Monnereau. Solène Monnereau Huge thanks to the Tourist Office and of course the beautiful city of Toulouse. Thanks to the amazing dancers from le ballet du Capitole de Toulouse... Lauren Kennedy, Scilla Cattafesta, and Julie Loria I admire your art and your dedication to your craft. It is such a pleasure to work with such gifted artists every time. Thank you Jatta for being the only circus performer available ha, ha! Thanks to the Basilica of St Sernin for letting us create in such a unique location!

  • Back in Bordeaux Vlog #15 (part1)

Behind the scenes photoshoot It's always a pleasure to be back in Bordeaux... It's a beautiful city and for a photographer, it's hard not to fall in love with the city's architecture and scenery. The other wonderful thing is that there are a lot of talented artists living there. This was my 3rd time there and with Marlène our 2nd. We were in town only for a few days but we managed to set up 5 different photoshoots. Our adventures there were supposed to fit in a single video, but with the amount of footage I had, I finally decided to split it into 2. Down below is part 1 and we are taking you guys on 2 pole dance photoshoots in a place you might recognize... The Darwin eco système! We already worked there a year ago and decided to go back with a few new ideas in mind. We then went to la Dune du Pilat for our very first acrobatic gymnastics photoshoot! I was really excited to meet Léa and Laure and hope this will lead to other future collaborations. A fun day... yes almost an entire day spent together because the weather was quite awful. Don't get fooled by the images in the video, these were captured during the few times the rain stopped pouring. Léa Roussel & Laura Viaud Special thanks to the people at the Darwin éco-système for welcoming us twice! Huge thanks to the Performers, Injy Pina, Allegra Bird, Yvonne Smink, Léa Roussel, and Laura Viaud. Part 2 is coming soon, stay tuned! Injy Pina & Allegra Bird Yvonne Smink

  • Back in Bordeaux! Vlog #16 (part2)

Behind The Scenes photoshoot If you didn't read ( and watch!) part 1, check it out right now . We couldn't go to Bordeaux and not meet Claire again. I often work with ballet dancers so it would have been weird for me to not set up at least one ballerina session. Claire wasn't the only one. We had enough time and were lucky to work with Vanessa Feuillatte who was available during our stay. I still feel we have so many things to do in this city, so I hope to be able to organize another trip there this year. We were not over with the Darwin Eco-système yet. A few months back, we were supposed to make our very first BMX flat photoshoot there, but we failed to meet with Maxime the first time. Fortunately for us, we made it this time... Disclaimer! Some of the images down below were modified since the original post. Vanessa Feuillatte (Bordeaux - France) Claire Teisseyre We are still exploring new grounds... Our BMX flat experience started in Lyon , and we really hope to take it a step further... Gotta thank Vanessa, Claire, and Maxime for sharing their craft with us... The next stop will be Madrid!

  • All our vlog episodes!

It took me some time to release the final episode of the vlog... But here it is now, it began with part one a few weeks back: ...and part II was just released yesterday on my youtube channel: As if unconsciously, I didn't want it to end. Facebook recently reminded me that we left Strasbourg to hit the road exactly a year ago. Time flies, and I still can't believe this adventure is over. Although I know this is not a goodbye, I deeply feel inside that things will never be the same. Since we stopped traveling with the RV, we had some time to think about all the things we experienced during this amazing adventure. The people we met, the food, the cities, the pictures we made... An opportunity for us to reconnect with our friends and family. We learned so much from others, and we rediscovered ourselves. It wasn't easy, and we couldn't have made it through without the help of amazing people. First and foremost, our parents helped make the transition from a settled life in Strasbourg to a gypsy life on the road. Thank you, mom and dad, thank you Dominique for your precious help and support! To all our close family, thank you for everything! Mamie Papy, Kitty, Hialy, Fabien, Chonchon, Nini et Sandy merci team Grenoble, Lyon et Montpellier ! To all our friends, Marilyne, Sandie, Martial, Meelady, Amandine, Patrick et Paul, "merci à vous team Strasbourg"... Assif et Alexia aka Assifouille et Alexouille, team Lyon you rock. • Who got the flower 2017

2nd year in a row! The Who got the flower (WGTF) is an international Hip Hop event occurring in the small town of Pontcharra. Don't try to find it on a map, it's lost somewhere near Grenoble (France). Who would have thought that such an event would take place in such a place, in the countryside? It is and, I presume, will be the only hip-hop event I will attend this year... Yes, I made that choice a year and a half ago when I couldn't get some organizers to consider my photography as actual "Work"... Yes, photography is my job, and I cannot make a living out of it if people don't pay me for the beautiful pictures I deliver ha, ha! All jokes aside, and back to the WGTF, if I had one word to describe the festival, it would be: "Love". If I had 2 others it would be Family and fun. Because, yes, they have managed to make a hip hop event where you can see an audience ranging from toddlers to elderly. In my opinion, this is quite an achievement! How did they make it? Simply, by sharing what all this should be about: love, peace, and unity! It may sound a bit cheesy, but there is that kind of vibe going on throughout the festival, and it feels good to be there and to be a part of it. But what about the dance? There is for me one specific moment during this festival that justifies being there: The Collab'. Dancers coupled with a randomly picked musician, battle one another. The winner takes his opponent's musician and continues on his way to the finals. This battle is 100 % improvised! I thought that last year would be a hard one to top off but guess what, this year was even better! I was lucky enough to be part of this once again, and here are just a few images summarizing the event. Underneath are 2 of the official videos of the finals. The first is the Collab' and the 2nd the 3vs3 breaking battle. Check out their YouTube channel and their Facebook page for all the pictures and videos. I highly recommend you to attend next year's event if somehow you are in the area.

  • My first Ballet photoshoots in Madrid!

We stopped by many places during this tour, and they all had a unique vibe and feel. It wasn't my first time in Spain. I visited Barcelona, Sevilla, and mostly the south coast of the country a few years back but, surprisingly, it was my first time in Madrid. I am not going to lie. When we prepared for our trip, I had a hard time finding performers for my "InMotion" series. I am not yet very well-known and, although a few know my name now in the dance community, it is still a tedious and unpleasant task to go through. Madrid was my biggest chance to make a few pictures in a Spanish setting. There are a few dance companies with international performers. We got the word out and waited in hopes that a couple of dancers would be available during our stay. The first days after our arrival we just enjoyed what the city had to offer. It's sometimes fun being a tourist. While we were having fun, we were far from expecting what was about to happen... a dramatic change in the weather. Four dancers answered our call: Samantha Vottari, Ksenia Abbazova, Kayoko Everhart, and Pauline Perraut. We all prayed for a change in the weather because, at no point, a cancellation was an option. We were supposed to meet Samantha first, but the elements were not ok with that. We met at Plaza de España in hopes to make it happen and ended up in a coffee house nearby for a chat. An opportunity to get to know her better and fortunately we were able to reschedule for later that week. So, it all officially started with Ksenia and the idea was to make a few shots around the Royal Palace of Madrid. No authorizations were asked, thousands of tourists take selfies there, so what? It is just a fancier dance selfie shoot, right? Although the weather wasn't the best, we managed to make a few epic shots with this wonderful lady! It was a fun morning, with tourists gathering around from time to time, but we are all used to that. We finally got to meet Sam on a somehow brighter day... Not really! At least it wasn't pouring rain. With a dull sky and a flat light, we had no choice but to use artificial light to give a bit more depth and drama to the pictures (I love drama ha, ha). Samantha was fantastic, and I love the results although the conditions weren't ideal. The only benefit of shooting that day was the absence of tourists, making it easy for us to take wide shots without having any unwanted guests. For our third rendezvous, we had the pleasure to meet principal dancer Kayoko Everhart. One common thing when working in a city you do not know is giving inaccurate info for the place to meet. I really thought I was precise in my description, but now I realize how random it was. After over 30 minutes, trying to figure out where we were, we finally got to meet. I was afraid that this incident would kill the mood, but we figured out a way to make some of the best pictures of the tour. She is amazing and very professional, I know I can be a total pain the A** when I don't have the right leg, arm, head, toe, dress placement... So yes, sometimes we have to do the same movement a thousand times! I am kidding, maybe not a thousand but a lot and she made each jump like it was the first time. Last but not least, the beautiful Pauline Perraut was our last dancer... I rarely have that many ballet dancers in front of my camera in such a short amount of time. We didn't get to do much with Pauline, because the weather again was erratic. I had one shot I absolutely wanted to make after a google maps search, the only problem was that it is one of the most tourist places in the city. Our options were limited so I had to make a decision and use an unusual technique to clean my scene. I simply shot multiple plates to erase all tourists in the shot! Pauline was wonderful, and it felt good speaking French again that afternoon. The session prematurely stopped when it started to rain! Unfortunately, we didn't get to shoot a behind-the-scenes video of this fantastic experience. I really hope we will be able to go back there to shoot other dance styles... Flamenco anyone? Madrid, see you soon!

  • InMotion Toulouse (part I)

Ballet photography behind the scenes Toulouse... Oh, Toulouse, I don't even know where to begin with this one. Our love affair started last year , and what I considered a simple crush became something deeper, stronger and it obsessed me for months. Maybe I am exaggerating a bit, but you get the point... I kinda fell in love with the city. We made a few improvised photo shoots and were so lucky to get authorization to work inside the basilica St Sernin ( you can see the results here ). I knew that I had to come back there somehow someday for a bigger project. And then it happened, sooner than expected, with the help of the SO Toulouse convention bureau . 8 locations, 11 artists in less than 10 days... An "InMotion" special series just for "la Ville Rose"... something I have never done before for any other city I visited. I was planning on doing a chronological 4 parts blog post but changed my mind this morning and decided to release a 3 part post instead... 3 parts for 3 categories, Ballet, Tango, and Circus will be on the menu. The first location I am going to present you is one of my favorite. The Aeroscopia museum was on the top of my wish list for a while, and we finally had the chance to make a few pictures there. I didn't get to make all the crazy ideas I had in mind but we still got to make a few interesting shots. An almost sunny morning, with my partner Marlène and 2 talented dancers, Almendra Navarro and Denis Lamaj. The staff of the museum was fantastic with us, this museum is really worth a visit... Hope to come back someday for something huge. Down below a really short BTS posted on my IG @hkvisuals Almendra Navarro and Denis Lamaj My 2nd Ballet photoshoot was a tricky one. We were granted the access to the Muséum de Toulouse (sometimes known as MHNT or Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle). We had a part of the museum of natural history for us... A unique place, for a unique opportunity, where we were able to create surreal pictures with the lovely Diana Mora. An unusual setting for a Ballet photoshoot, just what I love! Another BTS here from my IG @hkvisuals Diana Mora This final ballet session was actually the very last photoshoot we made during our stay in Toulouse. It was a bit last minute because we contacted the place shortly when we arrived in the city and usually, on such short notice you can forget about getting any authorizations or official credentials. Plus, we had to find a dancer last minute too. When we arrived our organization was simple, during the first 48h we had to visit all the locations in order to prepare and plan our photoshoots. Our time was limited and I had to make a top 10 list of the locations I absolutely wanted to use and the Église Saint-Pierre des Chartreux wasn't a part of it... what a mistake! During a day off (Yes we had a few breaks), me and Marlène decided to go visit the place and totally regretted our choice. The minute we stepped out we knew we had to make it happen during our stay... Luckily, dancer Ines Furuhashi was in Toulouse and available... The rest is history! Down below another IG Behind the scenes: Ines Furuhashi Part II i s here, Let's dive into my first pictures made with Argentine Tango dancers!

  • InMotion Toulouse (part II)

Behind the scenes - Tango photography This is part II if you missed part I please check it out now . People still see me as a Ballet photographer. Don't get me wrong, I love classical ballet but have reached a point where I need to explore and photograph other things. Sports, fitness, and CrossFit athletes have joined the party for action shots and portraits and circus photography is becoming a personal favorite. Dancers still fascinate me and the great variety of styles should give me years of ideas and thousands of scenes to create. I always wanted to work with tango dancers, but never had the opportunity to fulfill that wish. And that day finally came! It happened during these intense 10 days of work in Toulouse and with not one but 2 couples. Maria & Santiago Giachello were the first to show up in front of my lens. We had the perfect location for this photoshoot: The hotel d'Assezat also known as the "foundation Bemberg ". The Toulouse convention bureau helped us with the authorizations and the museum welcomed us a few hours before the opening, the ideal conditions for the first time. Down below is a short BTS video posted on my IG: @hkvisuals For the 2nd shoot, I had 2 specific ideas I absolutely wanted to make. We visited the abattoirs contemporary museum beforehand and I kind of fell in love with an art piece by Julie Chaffort that was exhibited at the time. The hard part was to reach out to her and have her blessings to make a few shots with her art in the background. The 2nd idea was a timing problem. I wanted to catch the sunset at a precise place for a dramatic picture under an arch situated at the back of the museum. I was happy to have a positive response for the first and prayed for perfect timing and weather for the 2nd. Virginia Uva & Cesar Agazzi were so professional we just could not fail. What do you think of the results? Again, huge thanks to both museums and to the tourism office of Toulouse... Special shoutout to my partner Marlene. Part III will be out this weekend, can you guess what it will be about?

  • InMotion Toulouse (part III)

Behind the scenes - Circus photography This is part III, if you haven't read part I or/and part II please do so! So it all ends here. A fantastic adventure, 10 days of fun in some of the most iconic places of "la Ville rose". So what's next? I hope an exhibition, and maybe more epic pictures? Toulouse is a rich, complex, inspiring city , I already have dozens of ideas in mind. But we are not there yet and before turning the page, here are the last galleries. After classical ballet , and Tango , I had to include a few circus artists in the mix. The following was actually the very first photoshoot we made during our stay. The Japanese Garden was actually on my wishlist the first time we visited the city last year. The timing wasn't right back then so we skipped the garden... This time the weather was "ok" but the Garden wasn't at its best, unfortunately, some of the trees were not in bloom. We made our pictures anyway, with the original artist I had in mind last year... Miss Jatta Borg! It was our 2nd time working together, and what a pleasure to have her in front of my lens once again. Here is a short BTS video: I felt like a kid visiting the "cité de l'Espace" museum. Space, astronauts, rockets, I was excited and scared all at once because too many ideas were rushing in my head and I knew we would not be allowed to set up some of them. So we kept it simple and ended up making some of my favorite shots of the series. This time we were accompanied by artist and hand balancer Charlotte Lemay. Loved every minute of this photoshoot... Just wished we had a bit more time, as there are so many things to do there. Quick little Behind the scenes just for you: A special InMotion Toulouse without the "Capitole" ? Impossible, we had to make a few photos inside. The amazing Casey Wood was up for it, her boyfriend Gonzalo came to give a hand, and we had one morning to make what we could in this iconic monument... The BTS: Finally, there is THE museum... Ok, this is a personal statement, but this place is really amazing. Le "musée des Augustins" was maybe one of the locations I was more excited about. I feel that I could have done more and better there. The place is huge so we had to carefully select the scenes we really wanted. We spent almost all day there with 3 artists. The lovely Eloïze ( Do you remember our first photoshoot together in Lyon?) who traveled especially for this shoot, and hand-to-hand duo Mila and Emile. Quick peek behind the scenes: So what do you think? What are your favorite pictures? I'll conclude this 3 part post by thanking all the people who were involved in this project, the city of Toulouse and the Toulouse convention bureau, and all the amazing locations that participated. Special thanks to Melissa Butelli and Isabel Bribes for their help, and thank you, Adrien Harmel, for trusting me.
